02•FLOORING MATERIAL
Tatami is a traditional Japanese flooring material. It is constructed by covering a core—known as *tatami-doko*—with a woven surface layer (*tatami-omote*), typically made of rush grass, and sewing a fabric border (*heri*) around the edges. Valued for its excellent moisture-absorbing properties and cushioning, it has long been a popular flooring choice suited to Japan's climate.
